A bird once decided to make war on a rock. When the bird started to peck at the rock,
the rock said, "Look, you can't fight with me, and I won't fight with you so why don't
you leave me alone?" The bird ignored this and, being hardworking and persistant, finally
succeeded in undermining the rock. Whereupon the rock, being unable to support itself,
fell down and crushed the bird. A stone mason saw the last part of this and, saying "Cruel
rock, to crush a bird like that," fragmented it to bits with his hammer. The fragments of
the rock's personality cursed thier plight and hurt people's feet for the rest of eternity.
